Quick Review
Today we are talking about Platinum Pre from Optimum Nutrition. A pretty decent supplement all around, and powerful stimulant wise. Although the effects were really impressive, I’d rather get something that doesn’t give me that chemical after burn in the taste. The ingredient profile is really good, but I like to enjoy the flavor of mine from beginning to end, and also I like my pre-workout to have the 3-5 grams of Creatine so I don’t have to take it separately. If you’re one of those people that mixes there pre-workout, and then downs the whole thing within a few seconds … then YES I would recommend it because you’ll hardly feel that after burn I mentioned., and the effects are awesome. But if you’re like me and want to enjoy the flavor as well, then NO probably not.

More In-Depth

Value- 8.5

Coming in at about $35 per container, the price of PRE is just slightly above average at about $1.17 per serving. Not overly expensive, but makes it a bit more difficult to win my buying decision.

Energy/Focus- 9

Alright, next is energy and focus. PRE uses a combination of caffeine (about 200mg per scoop) and DMAE Bitartrate to get you into the zone. I was surprised that even with this amount of caffeine per scoop, I didn’t get the jittery feeling that comes with some other pre-workouts. A bonus in my books.

Endurance- 8

That brings us to the next part. In terms of Endurance, PRE does okay. A big serving of Beta Alanine especially with two scoops will help to delay your muscles fatiguing, as well as an eletrolyte blend for hydration. A decent helping of L-Citrulline helps out here as well, but they don’t include any BCAA’s or Glutamine. I found that even after a hard workout, I could still walk away with some energy left over, instead of a big crash.

Strength Gains- 6

This section is where PRE loses the most points. It is Creatine free, which is worth the most points in this category. But with the large dose Beta Alanine, PRE does make up for some lost points. They didn’t include Betaine HCL either which could’ve helped out the score.

Taste/Mixability- 8.5

Last but not least, the taste and mixability. I had tried the Superfruit flavor, and althought the flavor was pretty tasty, the mixability was not so good. No matter how much water I added there were still bits of chemical left in the bottom of my shaker cup which gave the bottom portion a slight chemical burn in your mouth. Not very pleasant in my opinion. So in the end, great taste but mixability definitely brought the score down a bit.

  1. Agree with you guys completely, taste is terrible….But i don’t care too much cause i just chug it down pretty quick 30 min before workout. And the effects are so sweet. Do wish it had creatine in it tho….can’t have everything 🙂

  2. 5 out of 5

Works amazingly for me! I chug my pre-workout 30 minutes or so before a workout, so taste is not an issue. seemed fine though on its way down, lol. Intense mental focus and energy, with stamina to match it. love it!

You could feel as soon as you drink it. Those tingling sensation from the beta-alanine. I love those tingles. The focus you get is unbelievable. Energy was awesome. Definitely worth trying. I think I’ll get another tub on this one. haha.
